त॑ ज्ञात्वा पतितं कूपे भ्रातरावेकतद्वितौ । वृकत्रासाच्च लोभाच्च समुत्सृज्य प्रजग्मतु:,अपने भाईको कुएँमें गिरा हुआ जानकर भी दोनों भाई एकत और द्वित भेड़ियेके भय और लोभसे उन्हें वहीं छोड़कर चल दिये
taṁ jñātvā patitaṁ kūpe bhrātarāv ekatadvitau | vṛkatrāsāc ca lobhāc ca samutsṛjya prajagmatuḥ ||
ਵੈਸ਼ੰਪਾਯਨ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ—ਆਪਣੇ ਭਰਾ ਨੂੰ ਕੂਏਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਡਿੱਗਿਆ ਜਾਣ ਕੇ ਵੀ ਏਕਤ ਤੇ ਦਵਿਤ—ਉਹ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਭਰਾ—ਭੇੜੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਡਰ ਅਤੇ ਲਾਲਚ ਕਰਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਓਥੇ ਹੀ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਚਲੇ ਗਏ।
