धृतराष्ट उवाच
As a colophon, the verse does not add new instruction but reinforces the epic’s ethical frame: events are preserved within a teacherly tradition (Vyāsa’s Mahābhārata) and mediated through responsible witnessing (Sañjaya) and morally burdened authority (Dhṛtarāṣṭra), highlighting the importance of counsel, discernment, and accountability in rulership.
This is the formal closing line marking the end of Adhyāya 81 in the Anudyūta section of the Sabhā Parva, identifying the work (Mahābhārata), its traditional scope (one hundred thousand verses), its attribution (Vyāsa), the book and sub-book (Sabhā Parva, Anudyūta-parvan), and the dialogic frame (Dhṛtarāṣṭra–Sañjaya).
