आकर्णपूर्णरिषुभिम॑हात्मा चिच्छेद पुत्रो दशभि: पृषत्कै: । तब क्रोधमें भरे हुए वेगशशाली भीमसेनने आपके पुत्रपर एक भयंकर शक्ति छोड़ी। प्रज्वलित उल्काके समान उस अत्यन्त भयानक शक्तिको सहसा अपने ऊपर आती देख आपके महामनस्वी पुत्रने कानतक खींचकर छोड़े हुए दस बाणोंके द्वारा उसे काट डाला,अन्यानि पानानि च यानि लोके सुधामृतस्वादुरसानि तेभ्य: । सर्वेभ्य एवाभ्यधिको रसो<यं ममाद्य चास्याहितलोहितस्य एवं ब्रुवा्ं पुनराद्रवन्त- मास्वाद्य रक्त तमतिप्रहृष्टम् । ये भीमसेनं ददृशुस्तदानीं भयेन ते5पि व्यथिता निपेतु: ऐसा कहते हुए वे बारंबार अत्यन्त प्रसन्न हो उसके रक्तका आस्वादन करने और उछलने-कूदने लगे। उस समय जिन्होंने भीमसेनकी ओर देखा, वे भी भयसे पीड़ित हो पृथ्वीपर गिर गये

Sanjaya said: Seeing Bhimasena, inflamed with wrath, hurl a dreadful spear-like missile at your son, your high-souled son—steady in battle—cut it down with ten arrows drawn to the ear and released with full force. Thus, in the midst of war’s fury, skill and presence of mind checked a terrifying weapon before it could strike, showing how disciplined martial mastery can restrain the immediate consequences of anger on the battlefield.
