शिष्टेष्टयज्ञकर्माण: सर्वे वर्णास्तदाभवन् | उन दिनों लोग अधर्ममें रुचि रखनेवाले, लोभी और मूर्ख नहीं होते थे। उस समय सभी वर्णके लोग अपने लिये शास्त्रविहित यज्ञ-यागादि कर्मोंका अनुष्ठान करते थे
śiṣṭeṣṭa-yajña-karmāṇaḥ sarve varṇās tadābhavan |
ਨਾਰਦ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ—ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਿਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਭ ਵਰਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਲੋਕ ਸ਼ਿਸ਼ਟਾਂ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਮਨਜ਼ੂਰ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਾਸਤਰਾਂ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਵਿਧਿਤ ਯੱਗ-ਯਾਗ ਆਦਿ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਦੇ ਸਨ। ਕੋਈ ਅਧਰਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਰੁਚੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਸੀ; ਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਲੋਭੀ ਸੀ, ਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਮੋਹਿਤ/ਮੂਰਖ। ਹਰ ਸਮੁਦਾਇ ਆਪਣੇ-ਆਪਣੇ ਨਿਯਤ ਧਰਮਕਰਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਯਥਾਵਿਧਿ ਪਾਲਣ ਕਰਦਾ ਸੀ।
