यो5न्वयो मातृकस्तस्य स एनमभिपेदिवान् | संग्राममें पीठ न दिखानेवाला इरावान् जब क्रोधमें भरकर युद्ध कर रहा था, उसी समय उसके मातृकुलके नागोंका समुदाय उसकी सहायताके लिये वहाँ आ पहुँचा
yo 'nvayo mātṛkas tasya sa enam abhipedivān | saṅgrāme pīṭhaṁ na darśayanevāla irāvān yadā krodhena bharan yuddhaṁ karoti sma, tadā tasya mātṛkulasya nāgānāṁ samūhaḥ sahāyatārthaṁ tatra samupāgataḥ ||
ਸੰਜਯ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ—ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਾਤ੍ਰਕੁਲ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਹੀ ਤਦ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਮਦਦ ਨੂੰ ਆ ਪਹੁੰਚੇ। ਜਦੋਂ ਪਿੱਠ ਨਾ ਵਿਖਾਉਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਇਰਾਵਾਨ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਨਾਲ ਭਰ ਕੇ ਸਮਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੜ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ, ਓਸੇ ਵੇਲੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੁਲ ਦੇ ਨਾਗਾਂ ਦਾ ਇਕ ਟੋਲ੍ਹਾ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਲਈ ਉੱਥੇ ਆ ਗਿਆ।
