Chapter 7: Dvīpa–Varṣa–Meru-varṇana
Description of the Dvīpa, Varṣas, and Mount Meru
सर्वकामफल: पुण्य: सिद्धचारणसेवित: । तस्य नाम्ना समाख्यातो जम्बूद्वीप: सनातन:
sarvakāmaphalaḥ puṇyaḥ siddhacāraṇasevitaḥ | tasya nāmnā samākhyāto jambūdvīpaḥ sanātanaḥ ||
ਇਹ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹੈ, ਸਭ ਮਨੋਚਾਹੇ ਉਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਦੇ ਫਲ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਿੱਧਾਂ ਤੇ ਚਾਰਣਾਂ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਸੇਵਿਤ ਹੈ। ਉਸੇ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਇਹ ਸਨਾਤਨ ਭੂਭਾਗ ‘ਜੰਬੂਦਵੀਪ’ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
संजय उवाच
The verse frames sacred geography as ethically and spiritually consequential: a holy realm is described as puṇya (merit-giving) and as fulfilling legitimate human aims, while also being associated with siddhas and cāraṇas—figures that signify spiritual accomplishment and the preservation of sacred fame.
Sañjaya is describing a revered region in traditional cosmography, explaining its sanctity and why the eternal land is known by the name ‘Jambūdvīpa’—a designation derived from the name of the celebrated feature/place being praised.
