तं शब्दं तुमुलं श्रुत्वा पाण्डवानां महारथा:

Transliteration

sañjaya uvāca |

taṁ śabdaṁ tumulaṁ śrutvā pāṇḍavānāṁ mahārathāḥ |

atāḍayan raṇe bhīṣmaṁ sahitāḥ sarvasṛñjayāḥ ||

Translation

ਸੰਜਯ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ—ਪਾਂਡਵਾਂ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਉਠੀ ਉਹ ਭਿਆਨਕ, ਕੋਲਾਹਲ-ਭਰੀ ਗੂੰਜ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਸ੍ਰਿੰਜਯ ਮਹਾਰਥੀ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਕਤਾਰਬੱਧ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਰਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਭੀਸ਼ਮ ਉੱਤੇ ਟੁੱਟ ਪਏ। ਸ਼ਤਘਨੀ, ਪਰਿਘ, ਫਰਸਾ, ਮੁਦਗਰ, ਮੁਸਲ, ਪ੍ਰਾਸ, ਗੋਫਣ, ਸੁਵਰਨ-ਪੱਖ ਵਾਲੇ ਬਾਣ, ਸ਼ਕਤੀ, ਤੋਮਰ, ਕੰਪਨ, ਨਾਰਾਚ, ਵਤਸਦੰਤ ਅਤੇ ਭੁਸ਼ੁੰਡੀ ਆਦਿ ਅਸਤ੍ਰ-ਸ਼ਸਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਚੌਹੀਂ ਪਾਸਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਹਾਰ ਕਰਕੇ ਯੁੱਧ-ਭੂਮੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਭੀਸ਼ਮ ਨੂੰ ਪੀੜਿਤ ਕਰਨਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
