The Duty to Fulfill Promised Gifts
अपि चोदाहरन्तीमं धर्मशास्त्रविदो जना: । अश्वानां श्यामकर्णानां सहस्रेण स मुच्यते
api codāharantīmaṁ dharmaśāstravido janāḥ | aśvānāṁ śyāmakarṇānāṁ sahasreṇa sa mucyate ||
ਭੀਸ਼ਮ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ— ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ ਧਰਮ-ਸ਼ਾਸਤਰ ਦੇ ਵਿਦਵਾਨ ਇਹ ਉਦਾਹਰਨ ਵੀ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ: ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਗਿਆ-ਭੰਗ ਦੇ ਪਾਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਫਸ ਗਿਆ ਹੋਵੇ, ਉਹ ਕਾਲੇ ਕੰਨਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ (ਸ਼ਿਆਮਕਰਨ) ਘੋੜੇ ਇੱਕ ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਦਾਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੋਸ਼ ਤੋਂ ਮੁਕਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
