Adhyāya 9: Pratiśruta-Dāna
The Duty to Fulfill Promised Gifts
न हर्तव्यं विप्रधन क्षन्तव्यं तेषु नित्यश: । बालाश्व नावमन्तव्या दरिद्रा: कृपणा अपि
na hartavyaṃ vipradhanaṃ kṣantavyaṃ teṣu nityaśaḥ | bālāś ca nāvamantavyā daridrāḥ kṛpaṇā api ||
ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ ਦਾ ਧਨ ਕਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਚੁਰਾਉਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ। ਉਹ ਦੋਸ਼ ਵੀ ਕਰ ਬੈਠਣ ਤਾਂ ਵੀ ਸਦਾ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਤੀ ਖ਼ਿਮਾ-ਭਾਵ ਰੱਖਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਬੱਚੇ ਹੋਣ, ਗਰੀਬ ਹੋਣ ਜਾਂ ਦਇਆਜਨਕ ਹਾਲਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੋਣ—ਤਾਂ ਵੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਅਪਮਾਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ।
