Vipulopākhyāna—Ruci-rakṣā and Śakra’s Māyā (विपुलोपाख्यानम्—रुचिरक्षणं शक्रमाया च)
भीष्म उवाच क्रिया भवति केषांचिदुपांशुव्रतमुत्तमम् । यो यो याचेत यत् किज्चित् सर्व दद्याम इत्यपि
bhīṣma uvāca
kriyā bhavati keṣāñcid upāṃśu-vratam uttamam |
yo yo yāceta yat kiñcit sarvaṃ dadyām ity api ||
ਭੀਸ਼ਮ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ— ਯੁਧਿਸ਼ਠਿਰ! ਕਈਆਂ ਲਈ ਯੱਗ, ਗੁਰੂ-ਦੱਖਿਣਾ, ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਦੀ ਪਾਲਣਾ ਆਦਿ ਕਰਮ ਹੀ ਅਭੀਸ਼ਟ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਅਤੇ ਕਈਆਂ ਲਈ ਉਪਾਂਸ਼ੁ—ਮੌਨ-ਸੰਯਮ ਦਾ ਵਰਤ—ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਤਮ ਅਨੁਸ਼ਾਸਨ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਜੋ ਵੀ ਯਾਚਕ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਮੰਗੇ, ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਤੀ ਮਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਹੀ ਭਾਵ ਰੱਖੋ—‘ਮੈਂ ਦੇਵਾਂਗਾ’; ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਨਿਰਾਸ਼ ਕਰਕੇ ਨਾ ਮੋੜੋ।
