Indra–Mataṅga Saṃvāda: On the rarity and responsibilities of Brāhmaṇya (इन्द्र-मतङ्ग संवादः)
ब्राह्माण्यं प्रार्थयानस्त्वमप्राप्यमकृतात्मभि: । विनशिष्यसि दुर्बुद्धे तदुपारम माचिरम्
bhīṣma uvāca | brāhmaṇyaṁ prārthayānas tvam aprāpyam akṛtātmabhiḥ | vinaśiṣyasi durbuddhe tad upārama mā ciram ||
ਭੀਸ਼ਮ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ—“ਤੂੰ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣਤਵ ਦੀ ਯਾਚਨਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ; ਪਰ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਅੰਤਰ ਮਨ ਅਸੰਸਕ੍ਰਿਤ ਤੇ ਅਸ਼ੁੱਧ ਹੈ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਲਈ ਇਹ ਅਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਦੁਰਬੁੱਧੀ! ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣਤਵ ਮੰਗਦਿਆਂ ਮੰਗਦਿਆਂ ਤੂੰ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੇਂਗਾ, ਫਿਰ ਵੀ ਇਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲੇਗਾ; ਇਸ ਲਈ ਇਹ ਦੁਰਾਗ੍ਰਹ ਤੁਰੰਤ ਛੱਡ ਦੇ।”
