स वरैश्छन्दितस्तेन नूपो वचनमत्रवीत् । सहस्रबाहुर्भूयां वै चमूमध्ये गृहेडन्यथा
sa varaiś chanditas tena nūpo vacanam abravīt | sahasrabāhur bhūyāṃ vai camūmadhye gṛhe ’nyathā ||
ਭੀਸ਼ਮ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ—ਉਸ ਰਿਸ਼ੀ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਵਰ ਮੰਗਣ ਲਈ ਉਤਸ਼ਾਹਿਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ—“ਯੁੱਧ ਵਿੱਚ, ਸੈਨਾ ਦੇ ਮੱਧ ਵਿੱਚ, ਮੈਂ ਸਹਸ੍ਰਬਾਹੂ ਹੋਵਾਂ; ਪਰ ਘਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੋਰਥਾਂ, ਅਰਥਾਤ ਦੋ ਬਾਂਹਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੀ ਰਹਾਂ। ਰਣਭੂਮੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੈਨਿਕ ਮੇਰੀਆਂ ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਬਾਂਹਾਂ ਵੇਖਣ।”
