नास्याहं न मदीयो<यं पापं कुर्याद् विमानित: । इति दद्याद् भयादेव दृढं मूढाय पण्डित:
bhīṣma uvāca | nāsyāhaṃ na madīyo 'yaṃ pāpaṃ kuryād vimānitaḥ | iti dadyād bhayād eva dṛḍhaṃ mūḍhāya paṇḍitaḥ |
ਭੀਸ਼ਮ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ— ‘ਨਾ ਮੈਂ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਨਾ ਇਹ ਮੇਰਾ ਹੈ; ਪਰ ਜੇ ਮੈਂ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੁਝ ਨਾ ਦਿਆਂ ਤਾਂ ਇਹ ਅਪਮਾਨਿਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਪਾਪ ਕਰ ਬੈਠੇਗਾ’— ਇਸੇ ਡਰ ਕਰਕੇ ਹੀ ਬੁੱਧਿਮਾਨ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮੂਰਖ ਨੂੰ ਦ੍ਰਿੜ੍ਹਤਾ ਨਾਲ ਦਾਨ ਦੇਵੇ; ਇਹ ਭੈ-ਪ੍ਰੇਰਿਤ ਦਾਨ ਹੈ।
