कालनेमिरिति ख्यातो दानवानां महाबल: । स कंस इति विख्यात उग्रसेनसुतो बली,दानवोंमें जो महाबली कालनेमि था, वही राजा उग्रसेनके पुत्र बलवान्‌ कंसके नामसे विख्यात हुआ इति श्रीमहाभारते आदिपर्वणि सम्भवपर्वणि अंशावतरणसमाप्तौ सप्तषष्टितमो5ध्याय:

kālanemir iti khyāto dānavānāṁ mahābalaḥ | sa kaṁsa iti vikhyāta ugrasenāsuto balī ||

ਵੈਸ਼ੰਪਾਯਨ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ—ਦਾਨਵਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਜੋ ਮਹਾਬਲਵਾਨ ‘ਕਾਲਨੇਮੀ’ ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਖਿਆਤ ਸੀ, ਉਹੀ ਉਗ੍ਰਸੇਨ ਦਾ ਬਲਵਾਨ ਪੁੱਤਰ ‘ਕੰਸ’ ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧ ਹੋਇਆ।
