भयादू रणं परित्यज्य शक्रमेवाभिशिश्रियु: । बहुत-से देवता बार-बार प्रयत्न करनेपर भी कभी सफलमनोरथ न हो सके। उनकी आशा टूट गयी और वे भयके मारे युद्ध छोड़कर इन्द्रकी ही शरणमें चले गये

Transliteration

bhayād raṇaṃ parityajya śakram evābhiśiśriyuḥ |

Translation

ਡਰ ਦੇ ਮਾਰੇ ਉਹ ਰਣਭੂਮੀ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਕੇਵਲ ਸ਼ਕ੍ਰ (ਇੰਦਰ) ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਚਲੇ ਗਏ। ਬਹੁਤੇ ਦੇਵਤਾ ਵਾਰ-ਵਾਰ ਯਤਨ ਕਰਨ ਤੇ ਵੀ ਕਾਮਯਾਬ ਨਾ ਹੋ ਸਕੇ; ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਆਸ ਟੁੱਟ ਗਈ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਭੈਭੀਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਯੁੱਧ ਤਿਆਗ ਕੇ ਇੰਦਰ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਾ ਪਏ।
