ਛੰਦ ਗਾਇਤ੍ਰੀ ਹੈ, ਰਿਸ਼ੀ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਾਦ ਹੈ। ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਕੁੱਖ ਹਨ; ਚੰਦਰਮਾ ਤੇ ਸੂਰਜ ਦੋ ਨੇਤਰ ਹਨ; ਅਗਨੀ ਮੁਖ ਹੈ; ਵਿਸ਼ਨੂ ਹਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ; ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਤੇ ਰੁਦ੍ਰ ਸਿਰ ਹਨ; ਰੁਦ੍ਰ ਸ਼ਿਖਾ ਹੈ। ਉਪਨਯਨ ਕਰਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਵਿਨਿਯੋਗ ਹੈ। ਨਿਆਸ—“ਓਂ ਭੂಃ” ਪੈਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ, “ਭੁਵಃ” ਘੁੱਟਣਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ, “ਸ੍ਵಃ” ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ, “ਮਹಃ” ਸਿਰ ਵਿੱਚ, “ਜਨಃ” ਸ਼ਿਖਾ ਵਿੱਚ, “ਤਪಃ” ਗਲੇ ਵਿੱਚ, “ਸਤ੍ਯੰ” ਮੱਥੇ ਵਿੱਚ। ਫਿਰ—“ਓਂ ਹਿਰਦਯਾਯ ਨਮਃ”; “ਓਂ ਭੂः ਸ਼ਿਰਸੇ ਸ੍ਵਾਹਾ”; “ਓਂ ਭੁਵः ਸ਼ਿਖਾਯੈ ਵੌਸ਼ਟ”; “ਓਂ ਸ੍ਵः ਕਵਚਾਯ ਹੁੰ”; “ਓਂ ਭੂਰਭੁਵः ਸ੍ਵः ਅਸਤ੍ਰਾਯ ਫਟ੍।”

This verse assigns the Gāyatrī mantra’s cosmic components (ṛṣi, chandas, deities, lokas) to the practitioner’s body, making the recitation a consecrated, protected act—especially in initiation contexts like upanayana.
