Lord Vishnu (speaking to Garuda/Vinata-putra)

Concept: Atīndriyatva: the Supreme Reality is beyond sense-perception and even unsettles limited cosmic authorities.

Vedantic Theme: Nirguṇa/atīndriya Brahman; apophatic approach (neti-neti) to the Absolute; limitation of pramāṇas based on indriyas.

Application: Cultivate inwardness: shift from sensory chasing to śravaṇa–manana–nididhyāsana; practice restraint of senses and contemplative inquiry into the seer beyond seeing.

Primary Rasa: adbhuta

Secondary Rasa: bhayanaka

Related Themes: Garuda Purana (Brahma-khanda) 1.15.110-112 (atīndriya Hari; yet knowable through jñāna/buddhi)

FAQs

This verse emphasizes that the highest truth cannot be verified by ordinary perception (seeing/hearing) and must be approached through inner knowledge, discipline, and scriptural insight.

By stressing what is imperceptible to the senses, it points to the subtle nature of the jīva and post-death states—realities that are experienced beyond gross sensory evidence.

Do not rely only on sensory proof for spiritual matters; cultivate discernment, ethical living, and contemplative practice to understand the subtle workings of karma and consciousness.
