The Slaying of Hiraṇyākṣa and the Triumph of Varāha
मैत्रेय उवाच एवं हिरण्याक्षमसह्यविक्रमं स सादयित्वा हरिरादिसूकर: । जगाम लोकं स्वमखण्डितोत्सवं समीडित: पुष्करविष्टरादिभि: ॥ ३१ ॥
maitreya uvāca evaṁ hiraṇyākṣam asahya-vikramaṁ sa sādayitvā harir ādi-sūkaraḥ jagāma lokaṁ svam akhaṇḍitotsavaṁ samīḍitaḥ puṣkara-viṣṭarādibhiḥ
ਮੈਤ੍ਰੇਯ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ—ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਅਸਹਿਣਯ ਪਰਾਕ੍ਰਮੀ ਹਿਰਣ੍ਯਾਕ੍ਸ਼ ਦਾ ਸੰਹਾਰ ਕਰਕੇ ਆਦਿ-ਵਰਾਹ ਰੂਪ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਣੇ ਸ੍ਵਧਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਗਏ, ਜਿੱਥੇ ਉਤਸਵ ਕਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਟੁੱਟਦਾ। ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਆਦਿ ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਸ্তুਤੀ ਕੀਤੀ।
The Lord is spoken of herewith as the origin of the boar species. As stated in the Vedānta-sūtra (1.1.2), the Absolute Truth is the origin of everything. Therefore it is to be understood that all 8,400,000 species of bodily forms originate from the Lord, who is always ādi, or the beginning. In Bhagavad-gītā Arjuna addresses the Lord as ādyam, or the original. Similarly, in the Brahma-saṁhitā the Lord is addressed as ādi-puruṣam, the original person. Indeed, in Bhagavad-gītā (10.8) the Lord Himself declares, mattaḥ sarvaṁ pravartate: “From Me everything proceeds.”
This verse says that after defeating Hiraṇyākṣa, Hari as Ādi-Sūkara (Varāha) returned to His own realm, described as a place of uninterrupted celebration, while Brahmā and others offered praise.
Puṣkara-viṣṭara refers to Brahmā as the lotus-born (associated with the lotus seat), indicating his exalted status among those who glorify the Lord after His victory.
Remember that arrogance and violence (as exemplified by Hiraṇyākṣa) are ultimately overcome by divine order; a devotee cultivates humility and regularly glorifies the Lord, especially after receiving protection or relief.
