Yamarāja Instructs the Yamadūtas: Supreme Authority, Mahājanas, and the Glory of the Holy Name

इत्थं स्वभर्तृगदितं भगवन्महित्वं संस्मृत्य विस्मितधियो यमकिङ्करास्ते । नैवाच्युताश्रयजनं प्रतिशङ्कमाना द्रष्टुं च बिभ्यति तत: प्रभृति स्म राजन् ॥ ३४ ॥

itthaṁ svabhartṛ-gaditaṁ bhagavan-mahitvaṁ saṁsmṛtya vismita-dhiyo yama-kiṅkarās te naivācyutāśraya-janaṁ pratiśaṅkamānā draṣṭuṁ ca bibhyati tataḥ prabhṛti sma rājan

ਆਪਣੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਦੇ ਮੂੰਹੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਅਦਭੁਤ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਯਮਦੂਤ ਹੈਰਾਨ ਰਹਿ ਗਏ। ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਅਚ੍ਯੁਤ-ਆਸ਼੍ਰਿਤ ਭਗਤ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਦੇ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਡਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ; ਅਤੇ ਮੁੜ ਉਸ ਵੱਲ ਤੱਕਣ ਦੀ ਹਿੰਮਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ, ਰਾਜਨ।

Since this incident, the Yamadūtas have given up the dangerous behavior of approaching devotees. For the Yamadūtas, a devotee is dangerous.

This verse says that after hearing Yamarāja glorify the Supreme Lord, the Yamadūtas stopped approaching those who had taken shelter of Acyuta, and they even feared to look at such devotees.

Because their own master, Yamarāja, instructed them on the Lord’s supreme authority and the special protection given to surrendered devotees; realizing this, they no longer tried to arrest or trouble such persons.

Strengthen daily remembrance of the Lord—especially through sincere chanting and devotion—so one’s life becomes aligned with bhakti rather than fear-driven religiosity.
