Citraketu’s Detachment, Nārada’s Mantra, and the Darśana of Anantadeva

न हि भगवन्नघटितमिदं त्वद्दर्शनान्नृणामखिलपापक्षय: । यन्नाम सकृच्छ्रवणात् पुक्कशोऽपि विमुच्यते संसारात् ॥ ४४ ॥

na hi bhagavann aghaṭitam idaṁ tvad-darśanān nṛṇām akhila-pāpa-kṣayaḥ yan-nāma sakṛc chravaṇāt pukkaśo ’pi vimucyate saṁsārāt

ਹੇ ਭਗਵਾਨ, ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਨਾਲ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਭ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਣਾ ਅਸੰਭਵ ਨਹੀਂ। ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਵਾਰ ਸੁਣਨ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਪੁੱਕਸ (ਚਾਂਡਾਲ) ਵੀ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਬੰਧਨ ਤੋਂ ਛੁਟਕਾਰਾ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ; ਫਿਰ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਨਾਲ ਕੌਣ ਸ਼ੁੱਧ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ?

As stated in the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam (9.5.16) , yan-nāma-śruti-mātreṇa pumān bhavati nirmalaḥ: simply by hearing the holy name of the Lord, one is immediately purified. Therefore, in this Age of Kali, when all people are very contaminated, the chanting of the holy name of the Lord is recommended as the only means of improvement.

FAQs

This verse states that even hearing the Lord’s name just one time can free a person—even one born in a degraded condition—from the bondage of saṁsāra.

Because Citraketu is glorifying the Lord’s purifying power: if mere nāma-śravaṇa can liberate, then it is natural that direct darśana of the Lord eradicates all sins.

Make regular time to hear and chant the Lord’s names (nāma-śravaṇa and nāma-kīrtana), trusting their purifying effect and using them as daily spiritual practice.
