iti śrīśivamahāpurāṇe tṛtīyāyāṃ śatarudrasaṃhitāyāṃ nandikeśāvatāravarṇanaṃ nāma ṣaṣṭho'dhyāyaḥ
Suta Goswami (traditional Purāṇic colophon ending the chapter narration to the sages of Naimiṣāraṇya)
Sthala Purana: Colophon marking the completion of the chapter ‘Nandikeśāvatāra-varṇana’; it frames the narrative as part of the Śiva Mahāpurāṇa’s Śatarudrasaṃhitā transmission.
Mantra: iti śrīśivamahāpurāṇe tṛtīyāyāṃ śatarudrasaṃhitāyāṃ nandikeśāvatāravarṇanaṃ nāma ṣaṣṭho'dhyāyaḥ
This is a concluding colophon marking the completion of a chapter; spiritually, it signals that the narrative of Nandikeśa (Nandi) is an authoritative teaching within the Śatarudra Saṃhitā, highlighting the Shaiva ideal of steadfast devotion and service to Pati (Śiva).
By naming Nandikeśa’s manifestation, it frames Nandi as intimately connected to Saguna Śiva’s worship—Nandi is traditionally placed facing the Śiva-liṅga, embodying focused bhakti and disciplined attention toward the Lord.
As a chapter-ending marker, it gives no direct ritual instruction; the implied practice is Nandi-bhāva—steady, single-pointed devotion toward Śiva (often expressed in temple worship before the liṅga, with mantra-japa such as “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”).
