Teacher-Reconciliation, Timing-Policy, and the Fault of Factionalism
विशेषत इहास्माकं निमित्तानि विनाशने । उल्काभिश्ष प्रदीप्ताभिबाध्यते पृतना तव । वाहनान्यप्रहृष्टानि रुदन्तीव विशाम्पते
viśeṣata ihāsmākaṃ nimittāni vināśane | ulkābhiḥ pradīptābhir bādhyate pṛtanā tava | vāhanāny aprahṛṣṭāni rudantīva viśāmpate rājā duryodhana ||
ରାଜା ଦୁର୍ଯ୍ୟୋଧନ! ବିଶେଷତଃ ଏଠାରେ ଆମ ବିନାଶ-ସୂଚକ ନିମିତ୍ତ ଦେଖାଯାଉଛି। ଜ୍ୱଳନ୍ତ ଉଲ୍କାମାନେ ପଡ଼ି ପଡ଼ି ତୁମ ସେନାକୁ ବାଧା ଦେଉଛନ୍ତି। ତୁମ ବାହନ—ଘୋଡ଼ା ଓ ହାତୀ—ଅପ୍ରହୃଷ୍ଟ, ଯେନେ କାନ୍ଦୁଛନ୍ତି, ହେ ନରଶ୍ରେଷ୍ଠ!
द्रोण उवाच
The verse highlights the traditional epic idea that adharma and impending downfall manifest as ominous signs; wise counsel urges leaders to read warnings, restrain pride, and act with discernment rather than blind aggression.
Droṇa addresses King Duryodhana, reporting inauspicious portents: fiery meteors seem to strike the army, and the animals and mounts appear dejected and ‘weeping,’ suggesting imminent calamity for their side.
