The verse highlights śaraṇāgati (taking refuge): when overwhelmed by suffering, one turns to a morally and spiritually steadfast protector (mahāvrata) and seeks deliverance from despair, emphasizing humility, dependence on higher guidance, and the ethical ideal of compassionate rescue.
Ambā, afflicted by intense sorrow, addresses a revered, powerful figure as “Bhagavān” and “Vibhu,” declaring her surrender and pleading to be rescued from a terrifying ‘ocean of grief.’ The moment frames her crisis as a supplication for protection and intervention.
