Educational Q&A

Bhīṣma emphasizes that the disciplined practice of dharma brings exalted results—here framed as heavenly prosperity—and that certain duties and opportunities for dharma (especially those tied to governance, protection, and public welfare) are uniquely available to kings; non-rulers cannot fully enact or reap the same scope of such royal dharmas.

In Śānti Parva, Bhīṣma instructs Yudhiṣṭhira on dharma after the war. In this verse he reassures the Pāṇḍava that faithful observance of duty will lead to great reward, and he underscores the special domain of rājadharma—ethical responsibilities and merits connected with rulership.
