Adhyāya 5 (Śānti-parva): Nārada’s account of Karṇa—Jarāsandha encounter and the causal grounds of Karṇa’s fall
तयो: समभवद् युद्ध दिव्यास्त्रविदुषोर्द्रयो: । युधि नानाप्रहरणैरन्योन्यमभिवर्षतो:
tayoḥ samabhavad yuddhaṃ divyāstraviduṣor dvayoḥ | yudhi nānāpraharanair anyonyam abhivarṣatoḥ ||
ସେ ଦୁହେଁ ଦିବ୍ୟାସ୍ତ୍ରର ଜ୍ଞାତା ଥିଲେ। ତେଣୁ ତାଙ୍କ ମଧ୍ୟରେ ଯୁଦ୍ଧ ଆରମ୍ଭ ହେଲା। ରଣଭୂମିରେ ସେମାନେ ପରସ୍ପର ଉପରେ ନାନାପ୍ରକାର ଅସ୍ତ୍ର-ଶସ୍ତ୍ରର ବର୍ଷା କରିଲେ।
नारद उवाच
The verse highlights how mastery of power (divyāstras) can rapidly intensify conflict when not governed by restraint; it implicitly points toward the Shānti Parva’s broader concern with dharma—how force should be checked by ethical discernment.
Nārada narrates that two opponents, both skilled in divine missiles, begin fighting; they exchange a heavy barrage of varied weapons on the battlefield, each attacking the other in turn.
