याज़्ञवल्क्य उवाच
The verse grounds a philosophical enumeration—nine stages of cosmic emanation and the twenty-four fundamental principles (tattvas)—in śruti, asserting that this metaphysical framework is not mere speculation but aligned with Vedic scriptural testimony.
In a didactic exchange within Śānti Parva, the sage Yājñavalkya addresses a king and summarizes the doctrinal count: the ‘sargas’ and ‘tattvas’ are being presented systematically, with an explicit appeal to śruti as the validating authority.
