Welfare (kalyāṇa) arises from inner purification: the mind must be cleansed of harmful stains/impulses and one must abandon untruth. Ethical truthfulness and mental clarity together are presented as the direct cause of spiritual good.
In Śānti Parva’s instruction-oriented setting, Parāśara delivers a concise teaching on self-discipline: he defines the condition under which a person reaches kalyāṇa—when the mind is free from taints and one’s conduct is free from falsehood.
