उपपच्त्योपलब्धेषु लोकेषु च समो भव,'दैवेच्छासे जो भी लौकिक पदार्थ उपलब्ध हों, उनमें समान भाव रखो--राग-द्वेष न करो'
upapratyopalabdheṣu lokeṣu ca samo bhava
ଦୈବ ଓ ପରିସ୍ଥିତିବଶେ ଯେଉଁ ଲୋକିକ ଅବସ୍ଥା ଓ ପଦାର୍ଥ ମିଳେ, ସେଥିରେ ସମଭାବ ରଖ। ରାଗ-ଦ୍ୱେଷ କରନି; ଯାହା ଆସେ ତାହାକୁ ମନ ଅଶାନ୍ତ ନ କରି ଗ୍ରହଣ କରି ଧର୍ମରେ ଦୃଢ଼ ରୁହ।
भीष्म उवाच
Maintain equanimity toward whatever worldly gains or situations arise by circumstance; avoid rāga (attachment) and dveṣa (aversion), and keep the mind steady in dharma.
In Śānti Parva, Bhīṣma instructs Yudhiṣṭhira on righteous living after the war; here he emphasizes inner balance and non-reactivity toward the changing fortunes of worldly life.
