Adhyāya 287 — Janaka’s Inquiry on Śreyas, Abhayadāna, and Asaṅga

भवानेवंविधो<स्माकं संशयं छेत्तुमरहति । अमूढश्चिरमूढानां लोकतत्त्वमजानताम्
bhavānevamvidho 'smākaṃ saṃśayaṃ chettum arhati | amūḍhaś ciramūḍhānāṃ lokatattvam ajānatām ||
ଆପଣଙ୍କ ପରି ସର୍ବଗୁଣସମ୍ପନ୍ନ ଜ୍ଞାନୀ ମହାତ୍ମା ହିଁ ଆମର ସନ୍ଦେହ ଛେଦିବାକୁ ଯୋଗ୍ୟ; କାରଣ ଆମେ ଦୀର୍ଘକାଳ ଧରି ମୋହଗ୍ରସ୍ତ ହୋଇ ଲୋକତତ୍ତ୍ୱକୁ ଜାଣୁନାହୁଁ—ଆମ ପରି ଲୋକଙ୍କ ଅନିଶ୍ଚୟକୁ କେବଳ ଆପଣଙ୍କ ପରି ଅମୂଢ ଜ୍ଞାନୀ ହିଁ ଦୂର କରିପାରିବେ।
भीष्म उवाच
True understanding (loka-tattva) dispels doubt; those who are clear-minded and knowledgeable are uniquely qualified to guide the long-ignorant, and humility is the proper stance of the seeker.
Bhishma addresses a revered interlocutor, acknowledging his own side’s long-standing ignorance and requesting that the wise person remove their uncertainty by explaining the truth of reality and right understanding.
