अनेन हि तपस्तप्तं बलार्थममराधिप । षष्टिं वर्षमहस््राणि ब्रह्मा चास्मै वरं ददौ,अमरेश्वर! इस वृत्रासुरने बलकी प्राप्तिके लिये ही साठ हजार वर्षोतक तप किया था और तब ब्रह्माजीने इसे मनोवाञ्छित वर दिया था
anena hi tapas taptaṃ balārtham amarādhipa | ṣaṣṭiṃ varṣa-sahasrāṇi brahmā cāsmai varaṃ dadau ||
ମହେଶ୍ୱର କହିଲେ—ହେ ଅମରାଧିପ! ବଳ ପାଇବା ପାଇଁ ଏହିଏ ତପ କରିଥିଲା। ଷଷ୍ଟି ହଜାର ବର୍ଷ ତପଶ୍ଚର୍ଯ୍ୟା କରି, ପରେ ବ୍ରହ୍ମା ତାକୁ ଇଚ୍ଛିତ ବର ଦେଲେ।
महेश्वर उवाच
Power (bala) is depicted as arising from sustained discipline (tapas) and the consequent bestowal of a boon; the verse invites ethical scrutiny of whether such earned power is directed toward righteous ends or destructive ambition.
Maheshvara addresses Indra, explaining that the (implied) Vṛtrāsura undertook severe austerities for sixty thousand years to gain strength, after which Brahmā granted him his wished-for boon.
