Marks of the Sinful and the Righteous; Dispassion (Nirveda) as a Path to Liberation
tataḥ pitrā ciraṁ stutvā ciraṁ cāprāya mūrdhani | ciraṁ dorbhyā pariṣvajya ciraṁ jīvety udāhṛtaḥ ||
The verse highlights dharmic family affection and the ethical ideal of elders blessing and affirming the younger generation—praise, physical warmth, and a benediction for long life as a model of nurturing conduct.
A father, moved by love and approval, praises his son, smells his head (a traditional gesture of tenderness), embraces him closely, and blesses him with the words “May you live long.”
