समरेषु च विक्रान्तं पर्याप्त॑ तन्निदर्शनम् । पहले मैं जो पुरुषार्थ प्रकट कर चुका हूँ
samareṣu ca vikrāntaṃ paryāptaṃ tan-nidarśanam |
ଭୀଷ୍ମ କହିଲେ—ସମରରେ ମୋର ବିକ୍ରମର ପ୍ରମାଣ ସ୍ୱରୂପ ଗୋଟିଏ ଦୃଷ୍ଟାନ୍ତ ହିଁ ପର୍ଯ୍ୟାପ୍ତ। ମୁଁ ପୂର୍ବରୁ ଯେ ପୁରୁଷାର୍ଥ ପ୍ରକାଶ କରିଛି, ସେଥିରେ ସବୁଠାରୁ ଅଧିକ ଜାଣିଥିବା ତୁମେ। ଅନେକ ଯୁଦ୍ଧରେ ତୁମେ ପୁନଃପୁନଃ ମୋର ପରାକ୍ରମ ଦେଖିଛ; ତେଣୁ ଏହି ସମୟରେ ଗୋଟିଏ ଉଦାହରଣ ଯଥେଷ୍ଟ।
भीष्म उवाच
Bhishma frames ethical credibility through lived conduct: when character and duty have been repeatedly demonstrated, elaborate self-praise is unnecessary—one clear instance can serve as sufficient evidence of steadfast resolve and martial virtue.
In his instruction during the Shanti Parva, Bhishma refers to his well-known battlefield record. Addressing his listener (implicitly someone who has seen his past wars), he says that his valor is already familiar and that a single illustrative example will suffice for the point he is making.
