त्रिवर्गविचारः
Tri-varga Deliberation: Dharma, Artha, Kāma
गुरुपूजा च कौरव्य दया भूतेष्वपैशुनम् । जनवादं मृषावादं स्तुतिनिन्दाविसर्जनम्
gurupūjā ca kauravya dayā bhūteṣv apaiśunam | janavādaṃ mṛṣāvādaṃ stutinindāvisarjanam ||
ଭୀଷ୍ମ କହିଲେ— ହେ କୌରବ୍ୟ! ଯିଏ ମନ ଓ ଇନ୍ଦ୍ରିୟକୁ ଦମନ କରିଛି, ତାହାରେ ଗୁରୁପୂଜାଭାବ, ସମସ୍ତ ପ୍ରାଣୀ ପ୍ରତି ଦୟା ଓ ଅପୈଶୁନ୍ୟ (ଚୁଗୁଲି ନ କରିବା) ଥାଏ। ସେ ଜନବାଦ/ଅପବାଦ, ମିଥ୍ୟାବାଦ ଏବଂ ସ୍ତୁତି-ନିନ୍ଦାର ଅଭ୍ୟାସକୁ ତ୍ୟାଗ କରେ।
भीष्म उवाच
Mastery over mind and senses expresses itself as ethical speech and conduct: reverence for teachers, compassion for all beings, and avoidance of slander, rumor, lying, and the destabilizing habit of praising or blaming others—along with other inner vices.
In Śānti Parva, Bhīṣma instructs Yudhiṣṭhira on dharma after the war. Here he lists the virtues that arise from self-restraint and the faults that such a disciplined person abandons.
