शकुनि (हिरण्मय-पक्षी) उपदेशः — Vighasāśin and the Difficulty of Gārhasthya
एतद् विदुस्तपो विप्रा द्वन्द्ातीता विमत्सरा: । तस्माद् व्रतं मध्यमं तु लोकेषु तप उच्यते
etad vidus tapo viprā dvandvātītā vimatsarāḥ | tasmād vrataṁ madhyamaṁ tu lokeṣu tapa ucyate ||
ଯେ ବ୍ରାହ୍ମଣମାନେ ଦ୍ୱନ୍ଦ୍ୱାତୀତ ଓ ଇର୍ଷ୍ୟାରହିତ, ସେମାନେ ଏହିଏକୁ ତପ ବୋଲି ଜାଣନ୍ତି। ତେଣୁ ଲୋକରେ ବ୍ରତକୁ ମଧ୍ୟ ‘ତପ’ କୁହାଯାଏ; କିନ୍ତୁ ପଞ୍ଚଯଜ୍ଞାନୁଷ୍ଠାନ ଓ ଅନ୍ତଃସମତ୍ୱର ତୁଳନାରେ ତାହା ମଧ୍ୟମ ଶ୍ରେଣୀର।
अजुन उवाच
True tapas is primarily inner: freedom from envy and transcendence of dualities. External vows may be called austerity, but they are secondary unless grounded in inner equanimity and purity of intent.
