The verse uses Agni as a moral-psychological image: when power is aligned with a clear purpose, it appears ‘smokeless’—pure, unobstructed, and awe-inspiring. Arjuna’s radiance signifies focused valor and righteous resolve in the midst of war.
Sanjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that Arjuna is visibly blazing on the battlefield. He compares Arjuna’s appearance to the Fire-god who, after consuming the world, is seen without smoke—emphasizing Arjuna’s overwhelming, purified martial energy.
