Sauptika Parva, Adhyaya 8 — Dhṛṣṭadyumna-vadha and the Camp’s Nocturnal Rout

उनकी अंगुलियाँ पीछेकी ओर थीं। वे रूखे

pītvā ca śoṇitaṃ hṛṣṭāḥ prānṛtyan gaṇaśo 'pare | idaṃ param idaṃ medhyam idaṃ svādu iti cābruvan ||

ସଞ୍ଜୟ କହିଲେ—ସେମାନଙ୍କ ଆଙ୍ଗୁଳି ପଛଦିଗକୁ ଥିଲା। ସେମାନେ ରୁକ୍ଷ, କୁରୂପ ଓ ଭୟଙ୍କର ଗର୍ଜନ କରୁଥିଲେ। ଅନେକେ ଘଣ୍ଟାର ମାଳା ପିନ୍ଧିଥିଲେ; ଗଳାରେ ନୀଳ ଚିହ୍ନ ଥିଲା; ଦେଖିବାକୁ ଅତି ଭୟାନକ। ସେମାନଙ୍କ ସହ ସ୍ତ୍ରୀ ଓ ପୁତ୍ରମାନେ ମଧ୍ୟ ଥିଲେ। ସେମାନେ ଅତ୍ୟନ୍ତ କ୍ରୁର ଓ ନିର୍ଦୟ; ସେମାନଙ୍କୁ ଦେଖିବା ମଧ୍ୟ କଷ୍ଟକର। ସେଠାରେ ରାକ୍ଷସମାନଙ୍କର ଭାତଭାତିର ରୂପ ଦୃଶ୍ୟ ହେଉଥିଲା। ରକ୍ତ ପିଇ କେହି ହର୍ଷରେ ଉନ୍ମତ୍ତ ହେଲେ; ଅନ୍ୟେ ଅଲଗା ଅଲଗା ଦଳ ହୋଇ ନାଚିଲେ। ସେମାନେ ପରସ୍ପର କହୁଥିଲେ—“ଏହା ଶ୍ରେଷ୍ଠ, ଏହା ପବିତ୍ର, ଏହା ଅତ୍ୟନ୍ତ ସ୍ୱାଦିଷ୍ଟ।”
