Educational Q&A

The verse underscores the moral and emotional cost of adharma-driven conflict: even royal power culminates in emptiness when kinship and social bonds are destroyed. It frames the war’s aftermath as a cautionary vision of loss and accountability.

Sañjaya, distressed by what has occurred, arrives in Hastināpura and goes to Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s residence, which is now described as nearly bereft of relatives—signaling the catastrophic depletion of the Kuru family due to the war.
