Adhyāya 40 (Book 7, Droṇa-parva): Abhimanyu’s Rapid Advance and Battlefield Disruption
इति श्रीमहाभारते द्रोणपर्वणि अभिमन्युवधपर्वणि कर्णदुःशासनपरा भवे चत्वारिंशो5ध्याय:
iti śrīmahābhārate droṇaparvaṇi abhimanyuvadhaparvaṇi karṇaduḥśāsanaparābhave catvāriṃśo 'dhyāyaḥ
ଇତି ଶ୍ରୀମହାଭାରତର ଦ୍ରୋଣପର୍ବ ଅନ୍ତର୍ଗତ ଅଭିମନ୍ୟୁବଧପର୍ବରେ କର୍ଣ୍ଣ-ଦୁଃଶାସନ ପରାଭବବିଷୟକ ଚାଳିଶତମ ଅଧ୍ୟାୟ ସମାପ୍ତ।
संजय उवाच
As a colophon, the verse does not teach through direct instruction but through framing: it signals that events unfold within a moral universe where violent excess and unethical conduct can lead to downfall, even for formidable warriors.
This is the chapter-ending colophon stating that the fortieth chapter of the Droṇa Parva has concluded, within the Abhimanyu-slaying episode, and that the chapter’s focus includes the defeat of Karṇa and Duḥśāsana.
