Educational Q&A

The verse underscores battlefield restraint and strategy: a warrior may aim not only to kill but to immobilize and prevent an enemy’s advance, using skill proportionate to the immediate tactical need—an aspect of disciplined conduct amid the chaos of war.

Dhṛṣṭadyumna rapidly unleashes dense volleys of arrows, first blanketing Durmukha, then sending a mighty stream of shafts to block Droṇa (Bhāradvāja’s son) from moving forward, thereby halting their momentum in the fight.
