न दिशो टद्यौर्न चोर्वी च न सम॑ विषमं तथा । उस अन्धकारमें न तो कौरव पहचाने जाते थे और न पांचाल तथा पाण्डव ही। दिशा, आकाश, भूमण्डल और सम-विषम स्थान आदिका भी पता नहीं चलता था
na diśo tad dyauḥ na ca urvī ca na samaṃ viṣamaṃ tathā |
ସଞ୍ଜୟ କହିଲେ—ସେଇ ଘୋର ଅନ୍ଧକାରରେ ଦିଗମାନେ ଦିଶୁନଥିଲେ, ନ ଆକାଶ, ନ ବିସ୍ତୃତ ପୃଥିବୀ; ସମ ଓ ବିଷମର ଭେଦ ମଧ୍ୟ ଜଣା ପଡୁନଥିଲା। ସେଇ ଅନ୍ଧ ରଣଭୂମିରେ କୌରବମାନେ ମଧ୍ୟ ଚିହ୍ନଟ ହେଉନଥିଲେ, ପାଞ୍ଚାଳ ଓ ପାଣ୍ଡବମାନେ ମଧ୍ୟ ନୁହେଁ—ଯୁଦ୍ଧର କୋଳାହଳ ସାଧାରଣ ପରିଚୟ ଓ ଦିଗବୋଧର ଚିହ୍ନକୁ ମିଟାଇଦେଇଥିଲା।
