(Alaṃbala-vadhaḥ) / The Slaying of Alaṃbala and the Advance toward Karṇa
tvadartha pūjyamānaiṣā rakṣyate paravīrahan
The verse highlights a political-ethical principle of kṣatriya conduct: protection is tied to rightful honour and allegiance—what is safeguarded is not merely a person or asset, but a trust maintained ‘for your sake,’ implying responsibility, loyalty, and the duty to uphold what one has undertaken to protect.
Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that ‘this’ (a feminine-referred person/force/possession in context) is being guarded and maintained with honour specifically for Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s interest, addressing him as ‘slayer of enemy-heroes,’ a courtly epithet consistent with battlefield reportage.
