Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the awe and danger of concentrated martial power: steadfastness and truth-to-vow in battle can make a warrior seem capable of annihilating vast forces. Ethically, it invites reflection on how valor and determination, though admired in kṣatriya culture, also intensify the devastation of war.

Vaiśampāyana describes (in heightened, poetic terms) a formidable hero whose fearsome presence could ‘burn up’ the entire army of Duryodhana—an expression of the terror and admiration surrounding great warriors in the Drona Parva context.
