Bhīṣma’s Pressure on Yudhiṣṭhira; Śikhaṇḍī’s Approach; Evening Withdrawal

Educational Q&A

The verse underscores the epic’s ethical tension in war: martial excellence and collective assault can overwhelm even a foremost warrior, reminding readers that prowess must be weighed against dharma—especially when many unite to crush one, blurring the line between valor and unfairness.

Sañjaya describes a concentrated attack in which the Kaurava side (addressed as “your sons”) cannot withstand the opposing blows and then collectively showers Abhimanyu with sharp arrows, likened to rain-clouds pouring on Mount Meru.
