The verse highlights kṣatriya leadership expressed through disciplined organization and strategic foresight. Ethically, it frames war not as chaos but as a duty-bound, ordered undertaking—where command responsibility (ātmanaḥ) and protection of one’s forces (sarvatobhadra) are central.
On the ninth day of battle, Bhīṣma leaves the camp with the Kaurava forces and forms a major battle array called Sarvatobhadra, preparing for an intense clash. Sañjaya reports this to Dhṛtarāṣṭra as part of the day’s unfolding events.
