Uttaṅka’s Petition for Madayantī’s Divine Earrings (Maṇikuṇḍala) — Agreement, Proof, and Vigilance
यह सुनकर गौतमने पत्नीसे कहा--'अच्छा, ऐसा ही हो।” उधर उत्तंक निर्जन वनमें जाकर राजा सौदाससे मिले ।। इति श्रीमहाभारते आश्वमेधिके पर्वणि अनुगीतापर्वणि उत्तड़कोपाख्याने कुण्डलाहरणे षट्पञ्चाशत्तमो5ध्याय:
yaḥ śrutvā gautamena patnyai uktam— “accha, evam eva bhavatu.” tata uttankaḥ nirjane vane gatvā rājānaṃ saudāsaṃ samāgacchat. iti śrīmahābhārate āśvamedhike parvaṇi anugītāparvaṇi uttaṅkopākhyāne kuṇḍalāharaṇe ṣaṭpañcāśattamo 'dhyāyaḥ.
ଏହା ଶୁଣି ଗୌତମ ପତ୍ନୀଙ୍କୁ କହିଲେ—“ତଥାସ୍ତୁ; ତୁମେ ଯେପରି କହିଛ, ସେପରି ହେଉ।” ଏପଟେ ଉତ୍ତଙ୍କ ନିର୍ଜନ ବନକୁ ଯାଇ ରାଜା ସୌଦାସଙ୍କୁ ଭେଟିଲା। ଏହିପରି ଶ୍ରୀମହାଭାରତର ଆଶ୍ୱମେଧିକ ପର୍ବର ଅନୁଗୀତା-ପର୍ବରେ, ଉତ୍ତଙ୍କୋପାଖ୍ୟାନର କୁଣ୍ଡଳହରଣ ପ୍ରସଙ୍ଗର ଛପ୍ପନତମ ଅଧ୍ୟାୟ ସମାପ୍ତ।
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse underscores steadiness in dharma through consent and resolve: Gautama accepts the stated course (“so be it”), and Uttanka proceeds into hardship without hesitation, reflecting disciplined commitment to a duty-bound quest.
Gautama responds to his wife’s words with assent. At the same time, Uttanka travels into a solitary forest and meets King Saudāsa, marking a transition to the next stage of the ‘earrings’ episode.
