The verse highlights dharmic transition in old age: a ruler, having fulfilled (and failed in) worldly duties, seeks withdrawal to the forest with proper consent from spiritual authority (Vyāsa) and rightful political authority (Yudhiṣṭhira), emphasizing accountability and orderly renunciation rather than impulsive escape.
Dhṛtarāṣṭra informs Gāndhārī that he has received permission from his father Vyāsa and approval from King Yudhiṣṭhira, and therefore he will soon leave the palace life and depart for forest-dwelling as part of the Ashramavāsika episode.
