वैशम्पायन उवाच
As a colophon, the line primarily teaches how the epic self-organizes: it signals closure of a chapter and anchors the reader in the ethical storyline—where steadfastness and alertness are necessary to uphold dharma when faced with covert hostility.
This is not a spoken verse of action but an editorial/narrative closing formula: it states that the chapter ends here, within the Ādi Parva’s lac-house (jatugṛha) sequence, specifically the chapter themed around Bhīma’s act of drawing/fetching water.
