Brahmā’s Prayers to Lord Nārāyaṇa and the Lord’s Empowering Instructions for Creation
मैत्रेय उवाच तस्मा एवं जगत्स्रष्ट्रे प्रधानपुरुषेश्वर: । व्यज्येदं स्वेन रूपेण कञ्जनाभस्तिरोदधे ॥ ४४ ॥
maitreya uvāca tasmā evaṁ jagat-sraṣṭre pradhāna-puruṣeśvaraḥ vyajyedaṁ svena rūpeṇa kañja-nābhas tirodadhe
ମୈତ୍ରେୟ କହିଲେ—ଏପରି ଭାବେ ଜଗତ୍ସ୍ରଷ୍ଟା ବ୍ରହ୍ମାଙ୍କୁ ଉପଦେଶ ଦେଇ, ଆଦି ପୁରୁଷେଶ୍ୱର ଭଗବାନ୍ ନିଜ ନାରାୟଣ ରୂପରେ ପ୍ରକଟ ହୋଇ ପରେ ଅନ୍ତର୍ଧାନ ହେଲେ।
Before his activity in creating the universe, Brahmā saw the Lord. That is the explanation of the catuḥ-ślokī Bhāgavatam. When the creation awaited Brahmā’s activity, Brahmā saw the Lord, and therefore the Lord existed in His personal form before the creation. His eternal form is not created by the attempt of Brahmā, as imagined by less intelligent men. The Personality of Godhead appeared as He is before Brahmā, and He disappeared from him in the same form, which is not materially tinged.
It states that the Supreme Lord is the īśvara (master) of both pradhāna (the unmanifest material nature) and the puruṣa, showing He is fully transcendental and in control of creation’s causes.
After granting darśana and guidance, He withdrew from Brahmā’s vision to indicate that creation proceeds by the Lord’s empowerment while the Lord remains independent and not bound to remain visible.
Seek divine guidance through śāstra and prayer, do your duty with humility like Brahmā, and remember that spiritual life is sustained by faith and obedience even when direct “visions” are absent.
