Diti’s Untimely Desire and the Birth-Cause of the Asura Line
Prelude to Hiranyākṣa–Varāha
śraddadhānāya bhaktāya brūhi taj-janma-vistaram ṛṣe na tṛpyati manaḥ paraṁ kautūhalaṁ hi me
One who is actually faithful and inquisitive is qualified to hear the transcendental pastimes of the appearance and disappearance of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Vidura was a suitable candidate to receive such transcendental messages.
This verse highlights that sacred narration should be received by a faithful devotee, and that sincere eagerness to hear (kautūhala) is a natural quality that draws out detailed spiritual instruction.
In their dialogue, Maitreya acknowledges Vidura’s devotion and faith and invites the unfolding of the detailed birth narrative, indicating that Vidura is a qualified listener for such profound topics.
Approach spiritual study with śraddhā and bhakti, ask thoughtful questions, and cultivate genuine curiosity—this mindset keeps the heart engaged and makes learning transformative rather than merely informational.
