We have attained the session’s fulfilment; we have gone unto light; we have become immortal. From the earth we have mounted unto the heaven; we have found the gods—(we have found) the light of Svar.
Mantra 53
Ye twain, O Indra and Parvata, foremost in the fight,—whoso assaileth us in battle, smite ye him away, yea smite ye him, even him, with the thunderbolt, smite ye him, even him. Far be he cast; let him sink into the deep, if he would reach us. On every side, O hero, do thou encompass our foes; on every side vouchsafe us a sure abode. (And) with ‘Bhūr, Bhuvaḥ, Svaḥ’ may we be rich in offspring with our progeny, rich in heroes with heroes, rich in increase with increases.
Mantra 54
Parameṣṭhin is declared to be Prajāpati in the uttered Speech, in the Vyāhṛti; the Soma-juice is thereby made ‘accessible’. Savitṛ is (so declared) in the ‘sanyā’; Viśvakarman in the consecration; Pūṣan in the Soma-purchase.
Mantra 55
Indra and the Maruts have arisen for the purchase; the Asura is being bargained for; Mitra is bought; Viṣṇu, Śipiviṣṭa, wide-dwelling—may Viṣṇu be for us ‘not-harming, not-obstructing’.
Mantra 56
As Soma is carried forward he hath come; Varuṇa is seated on the Soma-seat; Agni (is) in the Āgnīdhra; Indra (is) in the Havirdhāna; Atharvan (is) as he is being led up near.
Mantra 57
All the gods are deposited in the Soma-stalks; Viṣṇu is (there) as the satisfied drinker. As he is made to swell, (he is) Yama; as he is pressed for us, (he is) Viṣṇu; as he is gathered together, (he is) Vāyu; as he is purified, (he is) the bright one—purified, the bright one—milk-splendoured, the churning-drink, groats-splendoured.
Mantra 58
All the Gods are lifted up in the cups; the vital breath is raised for oblation. Rudra, being invoked, and Vāta, turned back, the Man-beholding one, is made manifest: the food, being eaten—(even) the Fathers, the Nārāśaṃsas.
Mantra 59
A boon to us be the Sindhu, raised for the Avabhṛtha; the Ocean, being borne along; the flood of waters, overflowing—by whose might the regions are made firm, most heroic, most puissant in their powers: they who rule, unopposed, by their strengths—Viṣṇu and Varuṇa, invoked of old, have come.
Mantra 60
The Sacrifice hath gone unto the Gods, unto heaven: thence may wealth accrue unto me. The Sacrifice hath gone unto men, unto the mid-air: thence may wealth accrue unto me. The Sacrifice hath gone unto the Fathers, unto the earth: thence may wealth accrue unto me. Unto whatsoever world the Sacrifice hath gone, thence hath auspicious good befallen me.
Mantra 61
Four-and-thirty are the threads which they have stretched, who, by svadhā, establish this sacrifice. What of theirs is cut, that woven work I piece together: Svāhā! may the Gharma go unto the Gods.
Mantra 62
The milking of the Sacrifice is spread abroad in many places; eightfold it hath extended unto heaven. Do thou, O Sacrifice, milk forth for me abundant progeny, increase of wealth, and that I may attain the whole of life: Svāhā!
Mantra 63
Flow hither, O Soma, purified—gold-bright, horse-bestowing, rich in heroes; bring thou hither the prize most abounding in kine: Svāhā!
Because the mantras frame a defined Soma share as belonging to the Ādityas, emphasizing ordered distribution and ṛta-like propriety; the Upayāma-taking formalizes that allocation and its legitimacy.
It teaches that the ‘sixteenth’ completion is not only a numerical finish but a metaphysical seal: Prajāpati has entered all worlds, so the completed rite is proclaimed unsurpassed and all-pervading in scope.
They emphasize wakefulness, radiance, and continuity—Soma is praised as self-leading brilliance and invited as the dear draught for major gods and for all gods together, supporting sustained offering across the night.
